The Calcutta elecllon tribunal is engaged in hearing charges of cor- rupt pruelices against Sir K. G. M. Faroqui, member for the Tipperah district of Bengal and a former Minister of the Bengal Government. The charges which concern the recent general election are brought by a rival candidate.
The petitioner allexes Illegal "gratification" and attempts by agents to terrorise voters. Sir K. G. M. Faroqul. It is alleged, induced Government servants to use undue Influence with voters.
Mr. S. C. Militer, Director of Industries, Government of Bengal, gave evidence that he ill-advisedly, as a Government servant, assisted in the election campaign.
Sir K. C. M. Faroqul denies the charges of corruption as reckless and absurd.

CHIEF'S SUICIDE
Cape Town. Paramount Chief Mandlonke Sig- eau, of the Pondo tribe of Kafirs. who inhabit territory immediately to the south-west of Natal, has com- mitted suicide by shooting himself.
After attending a meeting of the headsmen of the tribe he returned to his krant and sent for his favourite wife. She found him sitting with a shot-gun-across his knees, and after- speaking with her he dismissed her, Almost immediately afterwards shol was heard.
Diamond Drilling Record-Dr. Harold J. Harger, n well-known South African geologist, is believed to have established a world's record for diamond drilling by reaching a depth of 9,500ft.
