THE EFFECT OF PACT WITH
MONGOLIA
One Loophole If She Desires Escape
Shanghai, Jan. 12.
If Outer Mongolia is made a war zone it will possibly lead to increased Russian aid to China is the belief of competent observers. This is the result of the 1936 inutual assistance pact between the Soviet and Outer Mongolia which China protested against, inasmuch as she considered Mongolia a part of China.

being in the event of Mongolia willing to admit the sovereignty of Chinn, she would undoubtedly con- sider a Japanese invasion as an at- tuck on her own soll, and according to the pact, Russian aid must there- fore be forthcoming. However, the pact was not signed by Chinn which provides the Soviet with a loophole in case such should be desired.
The immediate result would enable Mongolia's Soviet trained army to join the Chinese forces. The size of the standing army is not known, but un Omeers Training Corps numbers over 1,000, while women volunteers are able to join the territorial army.
