Prices Slump to Near Low Levels of 1935
Now, York, Dec. 28. Prices were lower, on the New York Stock Exchange to-day, almost reaching the lowest level since 1935.
The decline was consequent upon liquidation by discouraged long holders, and the selling increased as the adverse news acculmulated. Many traders dumped their holdings with the intention of taking to the sidelines pending a more definite measurement of business con- ditions.
Tekers Ingged behind at intervals. Steel Issues were the hardest hit. while American Can, General Motors, Chrysler, Consolidated Edison. American Tobacco, and Loewa Incorporated reached new low levels for the year.
Gold mining issues showed only small tosses. Silver issues weakened on the uncertainty of the Gover- ment's sliver policy.
Aviation Issues eased late in the sussion, although they were bolstered earlier by expectations of substantial orders.
The Bond market and Issues on the Curb Exchange were lower in an uctive session: United States Gov- ernment Bond Issues were lower. United Press.
