Three years ago sea scout Jack Weller, then 15, was run down by a railway engine and both his legs were severed above: the knee.

As he lay for weeks between life and death in a Salford hospital, not a whimper passed his lips. Instead, he smiled through his agony,

The story of his wonderful courage was told in the Sunday Chronicle at the time and aroused nation-wide admiration.

For days on end cheque after cheque came from sympathetic readers to the boy, who, wracked with pain, could tell his sorrowing father:-

"It's all right, Dad-I know my legs have gone. I saw what happened
