Hankow, Dec. 12. One British rating was killed, an- other seriously injured and Flag- Cupt. G. E. M. O'Donnell wounded 10-day when Japanese field batteries and inachlaeguns Arcti on H.M.S. Ladybird, 1.MS. Dee and the Jar- dine steamer Sulwo.

The incident occurred at Wuhu at 8.15 a.m. Four direct hits landed on the Ladybird where all the casual- ties occurred. The Sulwo also suffer- ed a direct hit.

The Ladybird, which was hnchor- ed at the A.P.C. Installation, 'imine- diately got under way when the bar- fred at until rage began and was

out of range.

The Bee, which is flagship of the Yangtse feet, had just arrived from Nanking when the firing began.

Hankow, Dec. 12. The United States gunboal, U.S.S. Panay, America's floating Embossy, ut Nanking, has gone 'further up- river, and is now 20 miles from Nan- king.
