RUBBER PRICES STRONG

Export Quota At 70 Per Cent.

Big Help To

Producers

*-**

London, Nov. 30. The International Rubber Com-

mitice fixed the export quota of the commodity for the first quarter of 1938 at 70 per cent. The next meet- Ing will take place on January 28, next year.

The committee's decision came as a pleasant surprise to the market, fulfilling the nost optimistic expecta- tions. A wave of buying immediate ly developed, prices rising over a halfpenny in excited trading, but the highest vek were not maintained owing to profit-taking.

It is pointed out that quota countries will produce about 90,000 tons of rubber les in the first quarter of 1938 than in the current quarter, which offset the decline in easliy American consumption.

should

The fact that the coinmitiée refrain ed from axing the quota for April and June is favourably commented upon as indicating the determination to watch the trend of consumption The New Year and to adjust the quota accordingly.

The market is unanimous that the decision of the committee, which was reached despite possible administra- tive difficulties of enforcing so big a eut in the Netherland-Indies, repre- sents the committee's ginuine concern over the poor deal now being expert enced by producera-Reuter.

It is understood from circles in close touch with the International Rubber Caminitize that the drastic cul

in the rubber quota has not met with any strong opposition from the Ameri- can delegation.

These informants state that the cut

in the queta should result in produc-

tion and consumption about equalising themselves during the first quarter:
