SUNDAY SERVICE
WITH
GOVERNOR ATTENDS
LADY NORTHCOTE AND OTHER H.K. NOTABLES
St. Andrew's 'Sunday was observed with special Church servlees yesterday, the most colourful of which was the parado of the Scottish Company of the Yolunteers at the Hongkong Union Church, where the service was attended by H.E. the Governor and Lady, Northcote, and the Chieftain and Committee of St. Andrew's Society. Following this parade and service, there was the time-honoured reception at Volunteer Head-
quarters.
At St. Andrew's Church, Kowloon, the Patronal Festival was celebrated, when the Vicar preached on the life and message of the Saint.
Yesterday afternoon in St. John's Cathedral, the local R.A.0.B. organisation held a memorial service for members of their brotherhood who had fallen in the Great War, and for Reman Delaney, of the Royal Ulster Rides, who was recently killed at Shanghai.

Indeed, this was the whole, purpose for which he came...."that yo may. have life,, and have it overflowing- ly.". And contemporary history ro- cords the fulfilment of "his claim, for John writes of him, "In him was life, and the life was the light of men."

Therefore, no matter how much appearances seem to belie our hope, we still have calm con- fidence in Him. And looking back on the long course of human history, Is this faith not justified, that God is over all and in all7 Impediments and hindrances to God's purposes there may have been, and still may be; but God "can afford to be very patient for He is eternal." I is this belief in the eternal and unchange- able nature of God, Who rules the world in wisdom and in love! Who Is the same yesterday, to-day and forever, which is one of the founda- tions which anyone must have who would face ilfe in quielness and con- Indence. Without such a belief, faith or hope can be no more than moods of the moment.
