TOMMY FARR'S OWN STORY

OF LOUIS FIGHT TOLD IN COURT

TOMMY FARR'S affidavit dealing with incidents during his world title fight in. New York with Joo Louis was road in the Chan- cory Division of the Law Courts recently.

Mr. Andrew Clark, for Mr. Ted Broadribb, boxing manager, applied for an interim injunction to restrain Farr from taking part in a boxing exhibition at Bir- mingham recently, or from "otherwise exercising his talent" without Mr. Broadribb's consent pending the hearing of a High Court action. The injunction also sought to restrain Farr from allowing his name to be used in any commer- cial enterprise without first obtaining the permission of Mr. Broadribb.

The hearing was adjourned. Farr and Broadribb had entered doors. the court through separate They sut only a few feet apart, but neither hooked at the other during the hearing of the ease.

TWO CONTRACTS IN DISPUTE

Mr. Clark said that Mr. Broadribb was seeking to restrain Forr from

He added: "I am willing, pend- ing the trial, to bring into court any reasonable urn of money, either in respect of this particular euntest or in respect of any sum which Mr. Broadribb alleges is due in him: г We will keep an account."

Mr. Clark: There is no question of the contract having been put an end

to,

Mr. Grant said that Mr. Broodribb desired to remain Farr's manager. although he had said he was not on speaking terms with him.

"Farr's Mr. Clark said:

present position is de very largely to Mr. Broadribb's efforts in bringing him forward. Now that he has established a world-wide reputation, he is seek- ing to kick down the Indder by which he climbed the fence."

All Mr. Broadribb was saying, con- tinued Mr. Clark, was that he had was in the contract, and while it force it did not expire until next July he had the right to make the for Farr's engage- arrangements ments and pubile appearances.

When Mr. Clark observed that Mr. Broadribb would be satisfied it Fare would pay into court the proceeds of trial his engagements pending the of the action, Mr. Grant Interposed: "My friend knows perfectly well that Farr will have nothing to do with Broadrihb. 'Hoth have pub- licly said that they will have nothing to do with each other." Mr. Clark: This is a case of a man who has suddenly got a reputation. he It has gone to his head, and thinks he can now go about saying, i will havē“nothing 'whatever-to-do with Broadribb. I can repudiate all my agreements with him." It is very damaging to Mr. Broadribb, and he feels it deeply.

DISREGARDED OBLIGATIONS' Mr. Broadribb, in his nfidavit, stated that when he and. Farr went to America to prepare for the contest with Joe Louis, he (Broadribb), pro- duced his contrael with Farr to the New York. State Athletic Commis-! sion.

"As soon as the contest was fin- up- ished Broadribb rushed to my ponent in the centre of the ring, congratulated him and shook bands with him, and left me in my corner in a helpless condition, being al- most blinded by the cuts under my eyes

"Furthermore, he made unfavour- able comments to the Press about me... He left me to go to the dressing- room the best way I could, with the assistance of my trainer. My trainer took me to our hotel and half an hour afterwards Broadribb arrived and found me lying on the bed in pain with severe bruising on face and head, caused by Louls's punches.
