Mrs. SMITH SENIOR Shaded

Takes Ten Years

N

Off Her Age

O one is quite so honest as a near relation-not even a mirror in the cold morning light can be so de- vastatingly frank. This, at least, is

what Mrs. Brith thought when I. saw her recently. She's a neighbour of mine, and one of those charming, motherly women. whom one is always glad to meet. For some time past she'd been looking forward to the return of her sister, who had been in Australla for the last fifteen years.

At last the great day came, and off went Mrs. Smith to meet this sister who was arriving home. Well, fifteen years is a good time, and I gather that when these two met the alater was horrified at how my friend had altered,

Since that awful moment of non-recognition, Mrs. Smith had been looking in the glass. She even confessed that she'd hunted out an old photo of herself,

"Never Too Late.."

"I've turned into middle-aged frump," she sold, "What with looking after the children and my husband, to say nothing of running a home and making both ends meet, I've just let myself go and now it's too late to do any thing."

She added that her husband had from time to time urged her to

get yourself a new frock, dear," but she hadn't realised that he must have noticed how she'd 'changed, and was trying to aug. rest that she should smarten up a bit.

'I look awful, and I suppose I shall have to go looking awful."

Well, that was too much for me, no, after some persuasion, I got her to promise to meet me early the next day

The difference was amazing, and I think she's now convertedi She didn't look made-up-she merely had a pretty bit of colour her cheeks and Ilpë, which transformed her face.

Brock to Match

Later in the afternoon we went shopping, and bought a new frock and hat-both quito inexpensive. but smart.

I persuaded her into wearing soft, deep blue, instead of the brown which had been her main colour. The blue set off her grey hair and matched her eyes, while brown merely made her drab and uninteresting.

I think the photos on this page tell the rest of the story. Mrs. Smiltli feels like a new woman and looks ten years younger.
