Escorted by aircraft and warships, His Excellency Sir Geoffry Northcote, K.C.M.G., arrived by the P. and O. liner Hanchi this morning to take over office as Governor of Hongkong. Lady Northcote accompanied him.
His Excellency was met at Queen's Pier by high officets of Government, the three Services, Consular body and civilian representatives, while drawn up at the entrance was a Guard of Honour comprising men of the Royal Navy, Army and Air Force.
A number of officials were presented to His Excel- lency, after which the party drove to Government House and later to the Council Chamber, where the oath of Office was administered. The public welcome to the new Governor took place at the King's Theatre at noon, and was largely attended.
