The Japanese claim to have captured several key positions and declare that a full retreat of the Chinese troops to the south continued throughout yesterday.

However, many Chinese troops were caught in a "drag. net" spread around an area of ten kilometres square to the north-west of the International Settlement by the Japanese forces, and they will be either wiped out, or forced to enter the International Settlement or French Concession, after disarming, it is said.

While Japanese residents in Shanghai are celebrat- ing the Japanese capture of Tazang, neutral observers confirm the report that the Chinese have not withdrawn from Kiangwan or Chapei.
