SAYING that there appeared to be two lunatics in the

case, the Lord Mayor (Sir George Broadbridge), at the Mansion House recently sentenced William Chalmers (12), an architect, whose address was given as the Savoy Hotel, to six months' hard labour for the theft of 12 £1,000 Bank of England notes.

The "lunatics," he said, were Chalmers, who went to the Bank of England, where he was arrested, and Mr. X (the prosecutor), who believed stories told him and parted with the money.

Chalmers was previously changed with being in possession of the notes, knowing them to have been stolen.
