authoritatively explained to-day.

The reports were that the submarine was passing Port. land Bill, Mubmerged, and that she was brought to the surface by practice charges dropped by the anti-sub- marine destroyer Wolfhound on Monday night.

The explanation given to-day was that the Wolfhound was carrying out an exercise with ai British submarine, which was sub- merged, and dropped a practice charge tu signal the submarine to surface.
