Without Permission Ho, said Mr. Wyatt, became pupil' in January and took his "A" to his licence in May. He had credit 50 flying hours of which 17 were solo. On June 7 he took up a plane but did not comply with the cuitoinary proceedure of getting permission from Flight Lieut. Long- held before going up. He flew off
westerly direction.
Cheng arrived later, ond lled a form saying that he wanted to go to Macao. Flight Lieut. Longfield told him not to do that but to fly above the aerodrome practise turns. He took off and practised turns above the aerodrome, then climbed above the clouds and was last seen going in la westerly direction. Flight Lieut. Longfeld was not anxious because he knew the capabilities of the pilot. About 5.45 p.m. Flight Lieut. Long- fleld went up lo look for Cheng. Ife flew around Lantas and returned about 7.10 p.m. It was the practice not to issue 5.0.5. messages until a plane was estimated to have only hatt an hour's petrol lett, sequently it was not until 6.30 p.m. that the authorities were informed of the missing planes. At 10 p.m. Information was received that the planes had landed.

The next morning a telephone call NA WAR, Kamus AR BİR won received at the School. Mr. Hang, the Chinese nison officer of the School, took it and found that
it was from Cheng in Canton, Cheng asked if anyone had gone to Cunton for him, and added that he went to Lantao but could not see Ho. Badl weather would not allow him to return so he went to Canton.
Looked For Io That morning Capt, Smith went to Canton where "Cheng said he had been dying above the nerodrome and had seen Ho's plane through a hole in the clouds. He had down through that hole and lost himself. He next found himself in. Cunton.
In view of these facts, concluded Mr. Wynth, he thought the incidents were just foolish escapades on the part of the students to quin notoriety. In both cased the plot originated in wilful acts of disobedience. He sub- raitted that had they been genuine cases of distress they would have got into touch immediately with Kai Tak aerodrome.
Flight Lieut. Longfield stated that the planes did not carry certificates of airworthiness or registration, or log books.
Mr. Hung Tsi-ming, stated that ke went to Nam Hunt for Ho. The minchine had been damaged in land- ing.
Defence Statements
Cheng in a statement, said that when he left the ground he intended looking for Ho, He went up into the clouds and when ite came down again he was in Canton.
Ho declared he had permission to fly in the afternoon from Mr. Hung He flew up past the mountain and lost his way. He came down in Sul Hing, Kwangsi, and from there he went to Nin Hung, where he damaged the plane in landing.
Mr. Hung, recalled, said he did see Ho before he went up and did not have authority to let hire fly. Ho said that he had permission from Flight Lieut. Longfield.
No defence had been offered, said: Neither defendant) the magistrate. had stated that he had been blown from the Colony by a strong gust of wind. They were both flying high, in one cose without orders and In the other without permission.
