KEEPING FOOD

D

O you And that housekeeping bills go up with leaps and bounds during spella of hot weather? Summer appetites, especi- ally the children's, are some- what finicky; milk and other perishable food often has to be written off because It has "turned" overnight, and to save waste it is necessary to buy in smaller quantities, often at higher prices.

To my mind the advantages of buying in bulk when foods are at their cheapest is one of the best Arguments for an electric rc- frigerator.

It will soon pay for itself if you balance the cost against the price

of food which would otherwise have been wasted during summer months.

Advance Cooking

the

But at the same time I don't want you to think of it only as a summer- time possession. It is intost impos- sible to keep either kitchen or larder sufficiently cool for food storage, even during the winter.

You have probably noticed this un the days when both zooker und boller are going, and steam from cooking or wwdin ulds to the warmth, too.

The refrigerator is extra useful, for It enable you to plan for leisure dur-

t the summer. Mouds can be prepared well in tatvince and stored all ready to serve or to re-heat us re- quired.

Complete week-end menus can be worked out on Friday, and most of the necessary engling finished by Saturday morning. To show you what I mean, brre is one suggestion for the prin cipal Saturday and Sunday meals.

Saturday supper consists of cold tinned salmon and salad und jam tart. M-day dilaer on Sunday either cold roast or hot minced beef, potatoes and greens, vanilla cream and stewed fruit.

Week-End Menus

Now for ways and menus. An elec iric refrigerator can be hired from the Jocul electricity company for as little

a day.

Storage space inside the cabinet is exceptionally roomy: the retrigerator can be placed anywhere in the kit-

First Job

MOST people feel pretty small their first day at

work.

But a little forethought helps a lot, Make a few resolutions before you set off.

Don't eling limpet fashion to the people who befriend you. Because you are sure to be sorry afterwards if you get too confi- dential right away. Don't plan always to have elevenses with your first-day friend,

Don't grumble about the cloakroom, office, or canteen, saying you're used to very different goings-on at home. Or if you arej impressed, don't give away that you never expected anything so grand.

Don't join oflice clubs till you've hari a chance to find out if you'd enjoy them. Don't go gay your first week. Have early bedtimes: you'll be tired.
