Anne Selby gives some good sug gestions to parents of children who are

Taking lunch

THE

to school

[UIE days are gone when the only possible lunch a child could take to school was a package of sandwiches crammed into an 'over-burdened satchel, with perhaps an apple squeezed into pocket.

The school child of to-day generally carries a neat little case, and into this the modern parent pucks a cor- respondingly attractive lunch--light yet nourishing. Variety In the menu should, of course, be one of the main cun- siderations in planning this meal, and many others will welcome new ideas for easily packed items.

Sandwiches and Soup

At this time of the year especially there should be something hot and nourishing included in the school lunch, Soup made from stuck or meal extract, a vegetable soup such as potato or tomato made with milk, or a good lentil purce are ideal, or the flask can contain hot cocon or hoi Bavoured milk. If sandwiches are to be given, use brown. bread, cut water thin, and spread thickly with butter. A steamed Allet of white fish, flavoured with onlon, is ex- cellent between thinnest bread and butter, or a slice of liver, sauted until tender and then well drained, can be used in the same way.

Fried food is not digestible, especially if eaten quickly before a vigorous game, but flat cakes of minced, uncooked ment, mixed with a few brown breadcrumbs, can be bound with a beaten egg and Gaked in the oven with a Httle dripping. Drain well and wrap in greaseprobt paper, when cold,

Green Salads

Hard-boiled eggs can be included, sometimes. They are more sppelising if they are first cut in half, the yolks taken out, mashed with butter and a little salt, then put back, and the two halves pressed together before being wrapped.

A green salad or raw fruit should be included every day. A little ettuce or watercress can be wrapped Otherwise separately or included in the sandwiches. there should be an apple, tomato or orange.

To finish up the repast there should be something sweet.

Sweet Recipes

seeded raisins or chopped dates, and stir in two tablespoons of melted butter, a cup of milk, and two beaten eggs. Stir well, and bake in small greased fins in a moderate oven' for about 25 minutes.

PINEAPPLE BETTY.-Heat two tablespoons of butter, and in it brown two cups brown breadcrumbs. Mixed in 1⁄2 cup of sugar. Drain the juice from a tin of crushed pineapple and keep it for your next fruit salad. Make layers of crumbs and the drained pineapple, finishing with crumbs, and bake. This could be used as the family pudding for lunch, and a small one made at the same time for next day's school lunch,
