HOLY CARPET GOES TO MECCA-For the first time in ten years the Mohammedan holy carpet leaves Cairo, Egypt, for Mecca. Formerly the carpet, a series of rich brocades for coverings in the Mecca mosque, made the journey every year. In 1020 a clash occurred between its Egyptian army escort and the Wahabis, an Arabian sect. Now peace is restored and the carpet journeys again.

ARMS DAN SHIP SUNK BY REBELS-Shelled by the Rebel cruiser Canarias, the Spanish, motor ship Mar Cantabrico went down in flames in the Bay of Biscay 90 miles off the coast of France. The ship gained notoriety when it sailed from New York Jan, 0, with airplanes and other munitions after outrunning the neutrality ban passed by Congress. This picture shows the ship quliting New York, Arrows indicate crates of airplanes and other supplies on the deck.

SKY NET TO STOP FLANES-Here is one of the sky nets pro posed by Lord Swinton, Brush Air Minister, to prevent air raids over London. A cable is supported by balloons, from which depend 1,000-foot wires spaced 60 or more feet apart. The bal- loons are more than 4,000 feet high.
