The honour of entertaining the official party fell to the President of the Society, Mr. E. H. Williams, and Mr. Williams. The pipes, dancers and band of the two Irish battalions in the Colony contributed a vahulste part to the success of the evening.

As usual, the decorations, under the able direction of Mr. G. V. Bird, were u great asset in giving "at- mosphere" to the ball, and the Rose Itoum looked pas

They included the crests of the Society, the Royal Ulster Rifles and the Inniskilling Fusiliers and the coats-of-arms of the ellies of Doblin, Belfast, Cork and Limerick, find the provinces of Ulster, Munster, Lcluster and Connaught.

"One hundred thousand welcomes was proclaimed in Erse by un Illuminated sign across the face of the hotel, eclipsing the many signt which bore similar messages of good cheer inside. An extended bar at which the Irish spirit was given place of honour was n necessary facility owing to the fact that over 500 in vitations had been issued. This was the largest number since the in- augural ball in 1931, when 700 guests were present, but inst night's showing was considerably aided by the unique presence in the Colony of two Irish battalions.
