DEATH SENTENCE

TO BE CARRIED OUT ON MARCH 24

Sentence of death passed on Wong Fat-chi, 30, for the murder of his adopted mother, will be carried out at the Victoria Gaol on March 24, despite the jury's strong recommen- dation for mercy.

Wong was found guilty at the Criminal Sessions on February 17 and sentenced to donth by the Chief Justice (Sir Atholl MacGregor). He was charged with having, at Talpo Markel, on December 27, mur- dered Li Kam-yin, 60, his wealthy adopted mother.

Evidence alleged that Wong took part in a conspiracy to murder the woman by allowing his brother-in- law, who has not been apprehended by the police, to enter her home in the middle of the night for the pur- pose of robbery. During the raid the woman was strangled.
