Players Picked For England In Charity Cup Match Discovered To Be Ineligible
STEVENS IS -IRISH: TAYLOR WELSH
TALBOT TO
PLAY FOR WALES?
BUT HE IS AN ENGLISHMAN!
(By "Veritas")
A strange story has come to light apropos the International Charity Cup semi-finals which are being played to-morrow. Steven (Royal Ulster Rifles), Taylor (Fusiliers) and Talbot (Fusiliers) were picked to play for England against Scotland. Yesterday Wales submitted a team to oppose Ireland and in- cluded none other than Taylor and Talbot. Hard upon that surprise camo nows that Stevens is a full-blooded Irish- man, and not an Englishman,
And Mr. Bill Hollands, who is in charge of the English team, is won' dering precisely what is going to huppen.
According to him Talbot, Taylor and Stevens personally gave assur- ances that they were English born. Now it is claimed that two of them are Welsh and the third Irish.
The position is not helped in any way by the rules governing the com petition, for they ignore completely to lay down any birth qualifications. It seems natural to believe, however, that they assume o representative of any of the national teams participat- ing in the competition, is either of English, Welsh, Irish

Therefore neither Stevens Taylor will be playing for England to-morrow, while Talbot is not eligible for Wales.
1 understand that if Tabot does play for Wales instead of England. the England selectors will take the matter before the Hongkong Football Association.
England has made two changes in the original line-up. Webster of the Seaforths, who, incidentally, I gather is the only Englishman in the bat- tallon, is playing at right back with Sydney Strange as his partner, vice Stevens,

It is difficult, however, to discover any excuse for the Hongkong Football Association's neglect of that prime subject--the revision of the Interport rules, when, in Mr. Stanley Gash, the H.K.F.A. had on its doorstep a gentleman who was authorised by the Shanghai F.A. to carry through negotiations concerning these rules.
