More direct is the interest the public has in (a) the policy the committee is adopt- ing in the matter of finding a suit- able team to represent the Colony and (b) the eventual persontrel of the team. It is not easy to obtain enlightenment on either point, but I have been abld to ascertain cor- tain probabilities.

Junior Shield Tio This Afternoon
Twice postponed, the Jun- ior Shield tie between the Royal Army Ordnance Corps and the Royal Artillery (Lyo- mun) will be played this afternoon.
Happy Valley is the venue and the match will kick off at 245. Sergt. Martin is the referee,

FIVE YEAR PLAN LAUNCHED
Tokyo, Jan, 11.
Imbued with a new spirit, follow- ing its reorganisation, the Japan Lawn Tennis Association to-day launched on a five-year plan to bring the Davis Cup to Japan.
The project was adopted at the first meeting of directors of the society held here yesterday when it was decided to compete energetically for the acquisition of the champion- ship trophy.

EFFECT OF FLEET'S DEPARTURE
ME EMBERS of the League Management Committee of the Hongkong Football Association listened with something approaching amazement to a letter received from the Royal Navy at their meeting on Monday even- ing.
The letter requested permission for the Navy to post. pone all first division league matches from January 12 to March 13 as the Fleet would be absent from the Colony,
Having recovered from their astonishment the com. mittee politely, but firmly, replied “Nothing Doing.”
The letter, which was torse and to the point, firstly asked that two senior division players-Wride and Le Page-receive permia- sion to be relegated to the junior team, and secondly that the first division_team's fixtures between January 12 and 'March 13 be cancelled until a later date as the Flect is leaving Hongkong and would not be returning until March.
Due consideration was given to both requests, and the follow-
