MORE GRUESOME THAN LINDBERGH TRAGEDY

Everett, Wash., Jan. 11.

The naked body of a little boy, murdered by kid- nappers, has been found in the woods near here..

It is that of the 10-year-old son of Dr. W. Mattson of Tacoma, the sunny-headed Charles, kidnapped from his home two days after Christmas.

Horror and indignation grips all of the United States at a tragedy more gruesome than that which shocked the world when the Lindbergh baby-another Charles-was done death by kidnappers.

The body was found in the snow, without a stitch of clothing. The little boy had been brutally beaten to death, apparently, for his face was covered with blood, his teeth knocked out and there was a large hole in his skull.

PARIS PRESS EXAGGERATED

TALE OF GERMAN LANDINGS

Paris, Jan. 11.

Decided relaxation of the Franco-German tension, apparently dangerous yesterday, is evident now, following Berlin reports of mutual assurances given by Herr Adolf Hitler, the German Chancellor, and the French Ambassador, M. André Francois-Ponce t, while Colonel Beigde- beder's reply to the French demarche, on behalf of the Spanish authorities, that no con tingent of the Foreign Legion is stationed in Morocco or expected there, is regarded as adequate.

A spokesman of the Quai d'Orsay declared to-day that it was not considered that any serious crisis had arisen. Authoritative circles consider that French press reports regarding the numbers of Germans disembarking in Moroc co to be much exaggerated.

According to a Berlin message, Herr Hitler gave the French Ambassador assurances that Germany had no intention of violating in any way the integrity of Spanish territory or possessions, while the French Ambassador assured Herr Hitler that France was firmly resolved to respect the integrity of Spain and the status of Spanish

Morocco, within existing agreements-Reuter.

London, Jan. 11.

The British Government, has received information con- firming the report of considerable German activity recently in Spanish Morocco; bat there is no confirmation of the landing of German troops.

It is true, however, that fortification work, on a small scale, is being carried out at Centu, with the assistance of Gorman technicians. But according to information obtainable hitherto, this work does not extend beyond the town, which is owned by Spain end has a different status from that of the terri- tory of Spanish Morocco, which is nominally under the suzerain- ty of the Sultan of Morocco,

1t is emphasised that Great Britain does not take too serious a view of the situation in Morocco-Rewer.
