Orders Troops Back

Shanghai, Dec. 26.

It is officially stated to-day that Marshal Chiang Kai-shek has been released unconditionally.

His first action on being freed was to order a cessation of hostilities in wilhdrawal of the north and the Government troops from Shews.

General Chang Hsuch-liang ex- plains that the revolt he lead, with the detention of Marshal Chlang, his first tactical move, was due to a mis- understanding which has now been cleared up. He erroneously thought that Marshal Chiang intended to dis- miss him and disband his troops and so he detained the Marshal in self- defence.

Moreover, he believed Nanking had falled to pay his troops, but it transpired that the money had been misappropriated by one of his own subordinates, who has now been arrested.
