JHETHER gentlemen ever really preferred blondes is open to doubt. In any case, in the coming months 100 shall find red heads around every ballroom and gentlemen
will find that every second partner tá oftams!
It looks as if too are going to have an epidemie of red hair in the way that bleaching swept the fashion world a while ago, when Jean Harlow first went platinum.
If you've ever bøan called Carrots," noto is your chance to laugh. Most fashionable of all is the true, but rare, deep auburn, but all the lights will be reddish, Blondes are giving themselves a pretty glint with special rinses whilst brunettes are putting a pleam into their duškiness with slight henna packs.
These need an expert hand, as they are not left on the hair long enough to change its colour-merely given the tone needed to brighten up the natural lights,

MY BEST FRIEND..
`AVE you ever sat down to consider who is your best friend, and why? It may take you some time to decide who, though the reason why will be a great deal more apparent.
The old tag that "a boy's best friend is his mother" is thready, as most son will tell you, for mothers have a habit of trespassing on this best friendship of nil
I think a humble but most attractive pig-man has this niche fa my nineteen- year-old-son's affections, And why not?
Sprechen Sie Dog?
by A. J. DAWSON
VERY student of dogs knows that they have a simple language of their own, and, by means of barks, growls, whines, and infinitely varied little throat sounds, contrive, not only to convey facts one to another, but even, on their own plane, to converso and exchange ideas.
Now a reader of these notes writes to inquire whether foreign dogs speak foreign languages)
He has been observing one or two canine Immigrants; recent arrivals from Central Europe, and, notably in (a) their, unmelodious night soliloquies, and (b) in their re- sponse, or lack of response, to his own specchi, belleves be. finda reason to think that foreign doga speak foreign janguages.
Continued study of dogs prevents one from being dog- matic, and I have observed too many evidences of their remarkable capacities (especially their possession of some selise or senses unknown to us to offer positive dental of any ordinary claim made for them. But I do not think that they speak foreign languages. I belleve the caning language is a kind of Volapük common to the dogs of ali nations.

There are plenty of places in Central Europe, for instance, where the aver nge dog is not allowed to set Foot E house; and others where he is turned out at bed time, as so many cats are in most lands,
I mention thla na one tiny example of the differences of foreignnesa whigh, would account for the impression formed by the reader mentioned that foreign dogs speak foreign languages

The best friend is always the one that experience has taught you will give the highest standards in return for your own love.
A famous film star claims that she has her best friend among the hum- blest ranks of the chorus. A well- known, politician admits that he con rides his troubles to a man who sells nowspapers in the shadow of Bt. Stephen's
It goes to prove the one point that the best friend is often somebody en- tirely oulakle the usual visiting list, somebody whom the outsider would not suspect.
My beat friend is my daily help. This probably sounds like a stunt; and absurd,, but if you look a little deeper, you will find this is not so.

A Relationship Built on the Bedrock. of Sincerity

by URSULA
She knows mo na tha world will never know me, and we alinre joys and opinions to- gether. Abe has never tried to win me over by flattery, and I find her entirely sincere in all her dealings. From her I can expect and receive truth, which I do not always get from other people.
They are too often influenced by the fact that I might prefer them to take this sido or the other; not so my friend. In emergencles aho is thy sheet anchor. She sets herself ns à bulwark between me and the world.

Implicit Trust
WOULD Maintain that from this a great-my best friendship has been built up. The time has come when I lean lipon her, and trust her implicitly. In a fix I turn to her for advice and know that she will give me only that

which she believes to be best for me.
I ask her opinion on all manner of matters -a dozen times a day. and she is entirely, frank with me. We never
attempt to veneer our real selves between each other, but can discuss mat- tera openly and can- didly. Surely this is real friendship?
It is this bedrock of sincerity which niways produces tho best friend. Nothing else is so vital. If you look round you will see this essential point nt the bottom of every friend- ship you know, Sin- cerity of Thought, Bincerity of purpose.
For this relation- ship hearts count more than appearances or worldly goods,
Once, when I was in
a nursing home, one of the nurses toli no that the staff tind anticipated my arrival, because they thought I should have a lot of glamorous friends calling upon me.
When I remarked that glamour was the last thing that one wanted from friendship. she looked at me in a pained manner.
When my friend came to see me, with none of the film alar glamour that was expected, the nurse took this as being fresh proof of my insanity. But in friendship it is a case of kind hearts being more than coronets.
Friends of Fame
FAMOUS queen Was grateful for the honest chatter of her ghillic. The late Rudyard Kipling had innumerable best friends amongst the rank and Ole. The blind man at the corner. of my road tells me that his dog is his best friend of all. And, it is not always the blind man who selects his dog na his best friend.
"A famous film star chooses her friend from the ranks of the chorus."
"A well-known politician confides his troubles to the man who sells newspapers in. the shadow of St. Stephen's."
