URBAN COUNCIL QUESTIONS ON FLIES BY DR.

Questions relating to the unusual prevalence of flies in the Colony will be naked by Dr. Li Shu-fan at the meeting of the Urban Council to- morrow. Dr. Li's questions are:

In view of the menace due to house-files in the spread of infections such as dysentery, typhoid, cholem, clc., will the Chairman kindly fur- nish answers to the following ques- tions:

Is the Government aware that: There is an unusual increase in number of files in the Colony during. ‹ | the

present year?

The existence of on enormous

number of flies at the Kun Tong re- fuse-dump, where they are being favourably and prolifically bred un- controlled?

The large number of files found on the refuse-barges which ply and convey flies between the city and the refuse-dumps?

The grounds adjacent to the Ken- nedy Town and Mã Tau Kok Slaugh- ter Houses used for the drying of animal blood and hair, are full of flies, and are 'extensive areas for breeding them?

Is there any organized measure made hitherto by this Council for the destruction, mitigation and/or prevention of breeding of flies in any of the places (a) referred to above and (b) elsewhere?

If the answer is in the negative, will the Government make a state- ment of polley and state what steps it proposes to like with a view to controlling and ameliorating existing conditions?"
