NEW TYPE OF IDEAL GIRL

HOLLYWOOD is looking for a new.

type of girl to groom for stardom, Sho must be old-fashioned int possess a modern personality.

The brownette is preferred-not too blonde or too dark. She must not be too tall or too small, too plump or too slim. In fact, the "just medium" is the ideal girl of the moment.

Karen Morley was chosen recently by Max Factor, Hollywood's beauty expert, as most closely approximating the new type.

Three months ago she would not have stood a chance berduse she was under weight.. But since then she has stopped dieting, and put on just over a stone.

SLIM AND THIN

Here are her measurements; which, It is auld, reproduce precisely the Agure of the '80's and '00's except for the waist:

Height: 5th. 4in

Weight: 115lb.

Waist: 25in.. Bust: 32in. Hips: 38in.

Wrist: $4in. Arm length:' 17in.

Ankle: 744łu. Calf: 124ta Neck: 12:

Head: 22in

- Shoulders [rotn tip to tip: 17ln.

"The underweight girl, whose slimness is really thinness, is losing popularity," sinted Mr. Factor, in announcing his cholce.

"The perfect type for stardom must not be cut of proportion, which means that she must weigh enough to balance her height."

"Can't

Throw Bottles

At The Star”

-George Bernard Shaw

IT is a great pity, declared Mr. George Bernard Shaw recently, that audiences cannot throw dead cats and ginger-beer bottles at the performers.

He was speaking in the M.G.M. private theatre in London, as chairman for Dr. Esdailo, a diction enthusiast, who argued that every talkie should have its director of elocution as well as its other directors.

Mainly Mr. Shaw was complimentary to the improving achievements of the talking film.

NORMA SHEARER

"Some of these Americans," he remarked, "have done extra- ordinary things in training American actresses to speak English. "Take Norma Shearer. When I saw and heard her in "The Barretts of Wimpole Street' she almost brought tears to my eyes by the beautiful way in which she said 'water."

I knew her natural way of saying it was, 'wadder." "

Mr. Shaw urged the importance of ensuring variety in the vocal plich.

"When I cast a play, I want to have. a soprano, contralto, a tenor and a bass. A conversation in which they all speak at the same speed and pitch, is extremely disagrecable."

Shakespeare's language was to a great extent a dead language. He himself understood the Elizabethan speech because he was brought up on the Bible.

"The most dreadfal things occur sometimes in playlor Shakespeare
