"Telegraph" wishes to draw the attention of the authorities to the flood of obscene and lurid American periodicals now entering this Colony.

Regularly, by American boats, thousands of these "penny dreadfuls" and sex magazines are pouring into Hongkong and, through this Colony, into Kwangtung, to be eagerly bought up by morbid youth.

The "Telegraph" has witnessed bundles of these magazines being taken across the border by smugglers, who thus evade the Chinese customs duty and, possibly, morality restrictions.

This week, two "Telegraph" representatives visited a minent bookstall largely patronised by people who .CTDSA harbour.
