to promise longkong an opportunity of arcing the famous Dallets Jooss (Theatre de la Danse) sometime early next year. ln their communication, the organisers of the Ballets Jooss state that after their fourth tour of America and Europe they are coming to the Far East und will begin performances in Japan In January.

They offer to Hongkong the eholce of three programmes, two hours long euch, all of which are of high stand- ard and of an unusual kind. An admirably got up booklet is avail- able at Messrs. Moutrie's showing "the nature of the performances and many pictures of the artistes. The company comprises 30 and needs two planos for the Bety.

The question here will be whether there is a stage large enough to give the Bailets Jooss full scope and it brings up again the old sore of Inck of a City Hall wherein such perfor- mances as these could be put over,

THIS is the story of a surred while elephant of Siam. Accompanied by à Siamese prince. the sacred

passed through Hongkong six months ago en route to the Dallas Centennial, At least, It was sold to be a sacred white cle- phant, and was supposed to have been smuggled out of Siam, exporta- tion of white elephants being frown- ed upon by the Siamese nuthorities. Certainly, when the elephant pass- ed through Hongkong It did not have tho appearances of being one of the specie, for its colour seemed that of nny of the ordinary elephants that roum the jungles of Slam.

But, as the attendant explained, the colour was really a dye. They weren't allowed to export a white elephant, so they'd used a dye to make the elephant appear an ordin- ary low custe one.

The dre has worked so well that U.S. veterinarians, who have hnd charge of the clephant since its arrival in Dallas, can't change the animal back to white.

Of course, there's one way out. They could use a white dye.

In the meantime, according to "The Billboard", the Siamese Prince who necompanied the elephant to America, is temporarily dispensing Dalias beer and sandwiches at a dance hall.
