ONE KILLED AND

30 INJURED

In the Colony of Hongkong, in- eluding the Island, Kowloon and the New Territories during the week ending at 8 д.т. on Saturday, October 10, there were altogether B trame accidents, as the result of which one person was killed and 30 persons were injured,

The person killed, a Chinese male, died. the result of injurica re- ceived when he was knocked down by a motor lorry whilst walking in the roadway.

Of the persons injured. IB were pedestrians who were either walking or running across the road and was struck by vehicles. Two bus pas- sengers and two tramear passengers were injured while alighting from moving motor buses and moving trameurs respectively. One driver and a passcoger of a motor cycle combination were injured when their vehicle came into contact with tree.

Three bicycle drivers, one ricksha driver, a tricycle driver and a pri- vate motor car passenger were in- jured as the result of collisions between vehicles,

Of the 51 accidents, 22 were col- istons between vehicles; 22 were collisions between vehicles and pe destrlons; and seven accidents were due to other causes. .

Munich, Oct. 14. The Bavarian Cabinet has an- nounced a "purge" of 1,676 Catholic sisters from cloister schools and their replacement by reliable Nazis.

The Catholic Church is vigorously protesting, alleging that this action is another violation of the concordat between Berlin and Rome, but the proiest is unlikely be effective as Hert Adolf Hitler's Minister of Education has already approved the

edict.

This "nazification" of 400 schools] will throw 600 teachers out of em- ployment on January 1, and the re- maining 1,000 affected will go on tie rellet roll throughout 1937.
