New York, Sept. 27. The Literary Digest poll in twenty- one States shows, out of 600,000 votes, 203,927 votes for. Governor Landon, 185.495 votes for President Roosevelt, and 10,032 votes for Mr. W. Lemke.

Political Murder

Eureka, Cal., Sept. 27. John Miller, aged 44, is being held for the murder ut L. E. Perske; nged 09. former resident at the Philip- pines and a Spanish war veteran.

An eye-witness said that Miller asked "Are you going to vote fur Landon?" Perske answered in the afirmative, after which Milter shot him with a rifle, piercing Peruke's heart-United Press.

MR. THOMAS LAY

PASSES

The death occurred yesterday of a well-known Civil Servant, Mr. Thomas Lay, of the Post Office, at the age of 41 years.

Mr. Lay was a Hongkong boy, prominent at one time in the erieket feld and on the tennis courts, and popular in a large circle of friends.

Ile was specially fond of tennis, learning his game at the Y.M.C.A. and subsequently playing for the Chinese Recreation Club and the Kowloon Cricket Club senior teams. He was once runner up to Omar

Kumjahn in the final round of the Colony's open cingles championship,

He was later Assistant Superinten- dent of Mails and when the late Mr. W. F. Holdman died he became Senior Assistant Superintendent. Quite recently he was placed in charge of the Kowloon Post Office but was invalided a few weeks ago. Mr. Lay leaves a widow, two sons and a daughter. Mrs. Lay is n
