THE BIG KICK-OFF: OUR REVIEW OF SOCCER
GOOD RESOLUTIONS TO

PLAYERS EAGER TO GET OFF THE MARK
(lly "Veritus")
A temperature of 90 degrees fahrenheit is expected to welcome Hongkong footballer's to-morrow when the opening of the 1936-37 season will be signalled by a pro- gramme of sixteen league matches, And probably after. half an hour's play most of the players will be wonder- ing why the deuce they ever took up the game!
All the same the season opens on a promising note. There is renewed determination, say the wiseacres, for more and more co- operation between, the clubs, play- er and organisers towards the facilitation of a very heavy winter of football. There are other wiseacres who pessimistically Bay they're not so sure about this. But at least the sun is likely to shine, the grounds will be covered with soft and pleasant turf, the touchlines will be fresh and un- sullied, the players will be enger the crowds interested. In short everything is ready for a happy send-off,
Let us trust that the good inten tions of all connected with the game in Hongkong will be reflected in their actions both on and off the field throughout the season.

HIS DEBUT
Club are really enthusiastic about their team this year, and think they have more grounds for this enthusiasm than at any other time during the last Ave-yeurs. The chlef asset is possession of a bunch of young players, who have also re- ceived the benefit of a season or more of first division football. There is thus a combination of youth and experience—two invaluable assets.

A very interesting personality in line is George Yeung, who will take

DROWN'S CLAIMS
The right half berth may not yet Le finally settled. Skinner is ap- pearing to-morrow, but Drown's claims will have to be considered, especially as Fleming, the new in- side-right is likely to secure a per- manent place in the team.
Without prejudice I think it can be said that if Drown is on form he is worth his place at right half, if only because he is younger than Skin- ner, and consequently faster. Speed la u very real factor in Hongkong football, particularly on the fust grounds which is the rule and not,
in this case, the exception.
I hear reports of warm aḍnilration for Fleming's abllllles as an inside forward. They say he can do lots of tricks with the ball, and invariably does them to the núvantage of his colleagues and the confusion of the opposition. Certainly lie is going to be interesting to watch.
Club are hoping that Elliott will find his shooting form curly on, and It will be generally desired that Fowler will play somewhat more restrainedly this season. Fowler has the makings of a more than useful outside right, but he wants to allow his brain to control those boots, and not his rather unbridled enthusinsmi Club have no need to worry about the left wing. Blekford is there.
