How Hongkong Lawn Bowls Team Won

KEEN STRUGGLE IN

FIRST SHANGHAI

MATCH

Shanghai, Sept. 8. THE Hongkong Interport Lawn Bowls team won their first match yesterday against the Shanghai Recreation Club, on the latter's green, by twenty-four shots to twenty-one, after a very hard fight. The green was very fast but in splendid condi- tion, drawing well on either hand but the gusty wind made bowl. ing a bit tricky, A novel innovation was the new score board, modelled on the style of the cricket board, and the Rees seem to have at last got a board that is really successful, casily seen from all parts and casily understood. There was a large crowd present in the latter stages of the game, and whilst the bowling was not of a very high order, they witnessed a keen struggle. The Rees. entertained the visitors at the conclusion of the match in their club house.

Making due allowances for the fact that the Colony team lave not quite Fettled down yet and were playing on a green that was much faster than kong, Shanghai should win the Biter- port series.
