HON HONGKONG Lawn Tennis Association last evening decided to extend an invitation to the Shanghai L.TA. to send men's and ladies' teams to Hongkong for an This decision Interport contest on or about October 10,

was reached when the Executive Committee met under the chairmanship of Mr. Ng Sze-kwong.

The Shanghai players are invited to come down here for the Double Tenth, but if this is not suitable, to arrive here in time for Armistice Day. It is suggested that the Interport takes the usual form, namely three singles and two doubles in both contests.

Pending Shanghai's reply, a meeting of the Interport Selec tion Committee will be held to issue a ranking list for 1935-36, and from such a list will be drawn Hongkong's team to play Shanghai.

Immediately Shanghai's reply is received, and if it is to accept Hongkong's invitation, the selection committee will meet to choose the Colony's teams, after which a scricas of practice matches will probably be arranged.

11 Shanghai last sent a tennis team to Hongkong in 1932. was a men's combination, Shanghai Being unable to send a ladies team. The side was vnptnined by John L. Wade, whe has since retired from termis of this nature, and Hongkong were beaten 3-2.

This contest also marked the debut in Interport tennis of Thui Wai-pui, who beat Wade in three sets.

LAST MONTH'S COMPLETE WASH-OUT COUNTY cricket is facing a financial crisis owing to

the abnormal weather this summer.

In four matches last month-Northamptonshire v. Sussex, at Rushden; Lancashire v. Derbyshire, at Man- chester; Warwickshire v. Gloucestershire, at Birmingham; and Yorkshire v. Nottinghamshire, at Bradford—not a ball could be bowled.

In the first three of these games no play was possible on the first day.

Northamptonshire were breaking now ground at Rushden, and the loss there cannot be estimateų,

Rain delayed the start of every other game on the last day except that at Yeovil between Somerset and Worcestershire.

THE first counties to win ten points to their opponents' three for a one-day County Championship match are Gloucester- shire and Northamptonshire. They succeeded yesterday against Warwickshire and Sussex respectively by, winning on the first innings.

The rule awarding these points was passed over two years ngo, but, although several counties have been involved in ono-day matches since then, the prize had eluded them. Lancashire and Derbyshire also played under one-day rules, but Old Trafford weather, true to its reputation, ruined even this abbreviated match when a good finish looked possible.”
