U.S.A. LEAD FIELD
Japanese aquatie stars have begun to set up records in the swimming events at the Olymple Games at Berlin which started on Saturday.
In the first heat of the 100 metres free-style event for men, Peter Fick, of the United States, reduced the Olympic record to 67.7-sees., but this was later lowered by Taguchi, the Japanese swimmer: Miss Machata also set a new record for the Women's 200 metres breaststroke event.
Outstanding resulta on Saturday were Glen Morris's win in the decathlon event: the success of Finnish runners, in 'the 3,000 metres and 5,000 metres events, in which new Olympic marks were established; Argentine's, win in the Polo final; and Poland's soccer victory over Great Britain. China won the consolation basketball event by defeating France, but did not do anything of note in the swimming or running events.
