As a result of a fight between Indian watchmen and alleged opium smugglers in the early hours of this morning, one Chinese seaman is dead and members of deck crew of the Douglas liner Haitan and an Indian night watchman are held by the police for questioning. The seaman, named Hui Ling-chung, aged 46, said to have been one of the smugglers. Subsequent ta the affray, twenty small packages of opium, totalling 800 taels, were seized aboard the Haitan.:

Shortly after 3 a.m. this morning, Sajan Singh, one of the Indian watchmen aboard the Haitan, noticed the sampan quietly move alongside and commence unload- ing its cargo.
