(SPECIAL TO “TELEGRAPH"}

Gibraltar, Aug. 5. During an air and naval battle in the Straits of Gibraltar to-day large shell from a Spanish Govern- ment destroyer fell on the Gibraltar race course, exploding only 200 yards from the refugee camp in which 800 British subjects are sheltered.

None of the refugees was injured.

The destroyer had rushed from Malaga to attack two steamers ferrying 2,000 insurgent troops from Morocco to Spain, but rebel. planes, convoying the steamers, bombed the destroyer so severely that it was compelled to return at full speed to Estepona.

The insurgent troops were landed at Algeciras,— Reuter Special.
