THIEF CHASED AND CAUGHT

A 23-year-old electrician, Cheng Hing, appeared before Mr. E. Hims worth at the Kowloon Magistrney this morning, charged with the theft of two fleetric switch boxes, valued at $16, from Tang Wing, caretaker of the Ho Tung Guild, at No, P' Han- kow Rond.

Mr. P. Smirk, living at No. 9 Han kow Road, stated that on August 2. he met defendant on the roof of his house, and saw him currying a screw driver and an empty big over his shoulder. The next day, he met de- fendant on the stairway landing with a sinalk rattan basket in his hand. He questioned him as to the reason why he visited the place so often," and was told that he worked for com plainant. Witness took defendant to see complainant and found out that there was no such relationship he- tween the two men. After further questioning of the defendant withesa became dissatisfied with defendant's story and told him to come to the police station with him. Defendant then tried to run away, but was caught and he then turned on witness and bit him on his right wrist. Wit ness then hit defendant who rolled down the stairs. Sergeant Medley, who was in civilian clothes across the street in a barber-shop, came up and arrested defendant A search. re- vealed that defendant had the two
