RAN AWAY FROM HIS "MYSTIC BETROTHAL" ' TO-DAY Mr. Bernard Shaw tells the story of his "mystic betrothal," when he was a poor and unsuccessful young man, to the daughter of William Morris.

A girl called Nora Upchurch was found dead in an empty shop in Shaftesbury-avenue on September 26,

On April 1 Mrs. Beatrice Sutton, who was 48, was found dead on her beef at her duc in Edgeley-road Clap- ham. There were no lgns of a struggle
It was thought that her death-was a natural one unul a post-mortem examination revealed that she was the victim of a dircase which would cause her death if only slight prea- sure, were applied to her throat.
The examination showed that, in fact, she had been stranglesi.
IN CUSTODY
At that time Field was in the custody of the R.A.F. authorities at Hendon in connection with some missing cheques, and in relation to thin was seen by a police inspector. To the inspectar Field made a con- fession.
