BOWLS TOURNEY

GRIMMITT REACHES

QUARTER-FINALS

Bowling of a fairly high standard was seen on the Kowloon C.C. green where A. W. Grinmitt defented C. 11. Basto by 21 shots to 2 to enter the last eight of the Open Singles Bowls championship. Grimmitt started shinkily but improved his play as the Kan progressed, especially in the last few hends in which he PLvealed Bashes of the form with which he won the title two years ago. Basto, on the other hand, was

rather in- consistent, and inclined to be short, but he was unlucky on several headi when shots lying in his favour were knocked away by Grimaltt's faml

wond.

The loser scored three in the first two hends but Grimmlit soon found his green and annexed five in the next three to take the lead which the maintained throughout. Grimmitt scored two threes, one on the 14th hend and the other on the last which was the 22nd,

he

Playing the more consistent game, A. M. Omar also entered the quarter- finals of the ingles when claminated A. E. Carey in the fourth round

on the Talkoo R.C. green yesterday. He allowed his opponent in score only on seven of the 21′ hendis played and conceited a four, Phy was fairly even in

in the first few her, the score at one stage being 10-16 an the tenth head. Thereafter, the young Craigongower C. C. player, who is one of the most promising of the younger sehool, drew away and won comfortably.
