TEETH
UR teeth in Hongkong to-day are better than they
have been for several generations. There is less dental caries in the front of the mouth, and, owing
to the new scientific attitude to dentistry, more people are keeping their teeth into middle-age.
Overcrowding. of teeth still exists to a large extent. This is due very largely to the fact that the average British head and jaw is long and narrow, and at the same time we have the racial charac- teristic of large teeth. One hundred years ago you will find in dental records exactly the same complaint.
It would appear then that this is a fact that we must all recognise and make allowances for in families where this national characteristic is strong.
To combat this tendency a new approach to children's-teeth dias arisen. That is to the spacing of the baby teeth. More and more children from the ages of eight to twelve are wearing plates to stretch and space the upper and lower jaws,
In some instances the railk teeth are removed to allow the per- manent Leeth to come through in goal position. With this treatment It is hoped to avoid the necessity of removing any of the permanent feelli later on to prevent overcrowding. All milk teeth are now treated as serious Begories and are filled in similar way to the permanent teeth.
