BIG CONCENTRATIONS PREPARE TO FIGHT
Canton, July 16.
Despite the fact that Nanking ordered a general attack on July 15, it appears that fighting in North Kwangtung has not yet started.
The South-west armies have established a first line of defence at Yintak, a second line at Yuantan and a third at Chuntien, it is expected that the first battle will be fought at Yintan, or in that vicinity, where the Kwanglung troops are strongly entrenched and are holding a position of strategic advantage.
Meanwhile, Southern troops are also concentrating at Ongyuan, ready to effect a flanking movement and enter Kiangsi if Nanking opens hostilities by attacking Kwangtung.
According to Chinese press reports, Nanking is moving 30 divisions to the borders of Kwangtung and Kwangsi, eighteen aeroplanes have been despatched to Nanchang and forty others are concentrating at Hengchow.
As Nanking plans to make a first attack upon the Northern Kwang- tung area with General Yu Han- mow's troops, supported by several divisions of Nanking, soldiery, the tension is at present centred in the North River region where consider- able military activity is proceeding.

SINCE ALLEGED SALE OF SECRETS ABROAD
Washington, July 15.
The acting Navy Minister, Admiral W, H. Standley, indi- cated to-day that John Farnsworth's leged sale of secret naval information to Japan, with which the ex-naval officer is charged, would possibly necessitate sweeping changes in battle manoeuvre tactics.
He explained that the book allegedly sold to Japan by Farnsworth was practically a battle tactics textbook.

TRADE BOOMS IN BRITAIN Concentrating On Empire Markets
IMPORTS TOTAL CAUSES
LITTLE CONCERN
London, July 15. Barring further major developments abroad, and assuming a continuance of industrial peace in Britain, there is every reason to hope that the progress of the past few years will continue, declared Mr. Walter Runciman, President of the Board of Trade, in review- ing the trade position in the House of Commons to-day. For some time, said Mr. Runciman, British exporters' hopes will be concentrated on an expansion. of trade with the Empire and the rest of the sterling nations, although the whole of world trade reveals a year encouraging features. There had been of marked progress in nearly all the principal industries, notable exceptions being coal and cotton.
Progress was remarkably good in industries supply- ing the home markets. The improvement had been widespread and was best illustrated by the unemploy- ment figures.
Railway receipts, despite road and sea competition, were nearly £2,000,000 higher in the first half of 1936, besides which there was an increase of £4,000,000 in postal receipts.
