Bicentenary Of America's Famous Statue

New York, June 10. International festivities this year will mark the 50th anniver- sary of the unveiling in New York harbour of the Statue of Liberty, largest human figure and mistress of the North American skyline.

Joining in the celebrations will be millions of immigrants who saw in the statue a symbolic welcome to New World of portunity, statesmen of France and the United States whose historic alliance the figure com- memorates, and war veterans who sailed under her out- stretched blessing. to foreign battlefields.

President Roosevelt and French Ambassador Andre de la Boulaye are scheduled to participate in the chief, ceremonies on October 28, ecmmenwrating the actual unveil ing on that date in 1886. The the Ambassador will represent people of France who gave the statue to the people of the United States to mark the 100th anniver sary of United States Independence and the Franco-American alliance which made possible that independ-

ence.
