Peculiar family traits which may have been handed down from one generation to another are being sought by the newly formed Bureau of Human Heredity.

The Bureau, which has its hend- quarters in Gower Street, Londen, aims at building up a storehouse of Information about inherited charac- teristics, no matter how strange or weird they may be. For instance, if you, like your father and grand- father, and maybe great-grand- father, have an extra toe on one foot, or one eye differing in colour from the other, the Bureau will gladly place your idiosyncrasy on record.

Mrs. C. B. S. Hodson, the hon. general secretary of the Bureau, re- cently discussed its alms and objects with a reporter.

"In farming and stock breeding," she said, "a knowledge of heredity has proved so valuable that bureaux have been set up dealing with plant and animal genetics where informa- tion is carefully collected and made available to agriculturists. Until now, there has not been a similar service for those interests In the question of human heredity.

"We know that as the result of numerous experiments and research work a mass of Information on this .subject exista, but it has never been colluted and made available for the people needing it. In addition to the facts obtainable from those who have mad a close study of heredity and have conducted experiments, we also want any help which the man in the street can give with regard to fumily characteristles,

Mrs. Hodson pointed out that three classes of people who urgently need the information the Bureau seeks are the medical profession, to whom it would be invaluable in the treatment of patients; éducationists, who would find it of great assistance in dealing with children; and research workers.
