In view of allegations in letter left by Mrs. Margaret Wardle, 37, wife of a retired found Army captain, who was dead from gas poisoning at apartment house in Warwick- avenue, Maida Vale, Mr. Ingleby Oddie, the coroner, at a Padding- ton inquest recently questioned Mr. James -Quin, a retired naval commander.

After hearing the evidence, Mr. Oddie, in recording a verdict of suicide while of unsound mind, said: "I frankly do not believe the allegations against Commander Quin."

In a letter which the coroner rend, the woman alleged that she find been turned out of the house by the com- mander,

Mr. Quin stated that Mrs. Wardle' had lived with him as his wife for about three years. They conducted Warwick- ah apartment house in avenue.

He said he had Mrs. Wardle's bod removed from her room on Thursday beause she said she was going to Glasgow and he was getting the roon ready for letting. She enme buck on Friday, and he Inst saw her alive on Saturday night.

He appealed to her to have her bed back, but she would not, and slept on eushions on the floor.

Miss Hilda Barry, a school-teacher, who found Mrs. Wardle dend in her room, seated on a chair with a gon ring on her lap, stated that she had 'never acen Mr. Quin ill-treat the woman. Mrs. Wardle had said that he had threatened to strike her and that, on Thursday morning he had kicked her.

Mrs. Rose Gilmour, sister of the dead woman, who said that she lived in Glasgow, gave evidence that Mrs. Wardle suffered from imaginary everyone she grievances against and a sense of gelovance and self- pity and was unreliable,
