Lord Linlithgow, Viceroy and Governor-General of India, and Lady Linlithgow are, shown here as they left their home in Chester Place, London, on their way to Delhi, where Lord Lin filhgow has already taken up his appointment. Ile succeeds Lord Willingdon as Viceroy of India. Lord Linlithgow, who was born in 1887, served in the Great Wor, being mentioned in despatches. In 1922-21 he was Civil Lord of the Admiralty. He has had con siderable experience in Indian affairs, acting as Chairman of the. Hoyal Commission on Indian agriculture (1820-28), and Chairman of the faint select council on Indian Constitutional Reform (1933).

H. M. S. Kent, fingship of Admiral Sir Charles Little, reached Shanghai last week and anchored at the British Naval Buoys off the Band. Shortly after her arrival an officin! party headed by Sir John Brenan, H. M. Consul-fieneral, and facluding Brigadier F. S. Thackeray, commanding British Troops, Shanghai Aren, left for the flagship by launch. Lower photo shows the British cruiser as she berthed. Upper photo shows the British naval launch leaving the Customs Jetty with the official party to call upon Admiral Little.
