Lord Linlithgow, Viceroy and Governor-General of India, and Lady Linlithgow are shown here as they left their home in Chester Place, London, on their way to Delhi, where. Lord Lin- lithgow has already taken up his appointment. He succreds Lord Willingdon as Viceroy of India. Lord Linlithgow, who was born in 1887, served in the Great War, being mentioned in despatches. In 1922-24 he was Civil Lord of the Admiralty, He has had con siderable experience Indian affairs, acting as Chairman of the Royal Commission on Indian agriculture (1926-28), and Chairman of the Joint select council on Indian Constitutional Reform (1933).

H. M. S. Kent, flagship of Admiral Sir Charles Little, reached Shanghai Inst week and anchored at the British Naval Buoys off the Bund. Shortly after her arrival on official party headed by Sir John resan, I. M. Consul-General, and including Brigadier F. S. Thackeray, commanding British Troups, Shanghai Area, left for the flagship by launch.
