250,000 TEST QUESTION FORMS
Next month 250,000 questionnaire forms will be issued to patrons of a large group of cinemas, mainly in the neighbourhood of London, in an effort to discover their wishes with regard to every aspect of a cinema's service.
Provision of an organ solo, type of film preferred, length of pro- gramme--are typical questions which will be asked. On the nns- wers will depend the policy of the cinemas during the next two years.
This questionnaire, which la Issued every two years by Mr. Sidney Bernstein to this cinemas,
one more example of the extraordinary amount of trouble taken by cineinn-owners to ascertain the wishes of the public.
Few filmgoers realise that an elaborate organisation exists to deal with the thousands of letters which are received every year, classifying suggestions and for- warding them to the department concerned, investigating com- plaints and granting, where possible, general requests.
TEMPERATURE OF ICE-CREAM
Every one of the thousands of letters received by the largest chain of British cinemas is ans wered by letter, and even, auch small details as the temperature of the ice-cream served are attend- ed to.
The managers of this circuit forward letters touching all but purely local matters to a divisiona】 superintendent, who passes them to the department concerned. Re- quests for a particular picture go to the booking department; aug- gested parts for a popular "atar" and requests for photographs go to the studios, or to the renters concerned if the "star" is under contract to another company; comments on the cafe to the catering department. Advice on the design or colouring of posters is sometimes received, and this goes to the advertising section.
