WHAT is now in the summer kit for 1936 ! Hongkongites who are ready for the beaches and picnics want to know.

The casual observer might think that there can be nothing now, shorts and shirt having become almost a uniform in past years,

Yet every year sees some innovations, either merely spectacular, or practical modifications and improvements.

THE shorts-suit is the lust

word in summer both for the tennis court or beach.

The shorts button up on both or on one side with plain bone buttons, the neck being finished with a Peter Pan col- lar or with narrow Inpels.

The belt, which

is

In one with the dress, hooks over invisibly and buttons to one side.

Wool taffeta, ainet and plain or sub linen are the materials used for the sults, regulation white being varied by pastel colours that can be worn for practice or informal games.

A

Players who still like

two-piece suit Are

unanimously in favour

of wool taffeta for ten- nis shirts.

These are beautifully tailored, with a turn- over collar either V shape or fitting round the base of the neck.

Initiala or 巍 mono- gram may appear un1~ obtrusively, but more often the shirt is left absolutely plain.

Gaberdine, which does not get rumpled in Wie hardest play and which oven the most careless washing can- not shrink, looks like ousting other materials for shorts,

Length of tennis shorts remains un. changed. Only EL fesy players like the ultra- short ones.

A year or two ago people argued over the shorts v. skirts ques Lion.

There is still VITI argument going on, but now it concerns the respective "merits of plain shorta and pleated ones. Players who like pleats say:

Pleats are kind to the figure. Give more freedom.

Are more graceful in play. The other side point out that:

Pleats get crumpled in a strenu- ous match.

Are difficult to launder. Make_the_figure look bulky,

From which it is clear that both types of shorts will be worn this summer. A good compromise is to be found in some of the new shorts-suits that have only one in- verted plent back and front,, but are cleverly cut so JLA to give ample fullness without bulk.

Mrs. J. B. Pittman, one of the most individual tennis players. in the matter of dress, wears a com- bination suit, the shorts of which are eut all in one piece without any eats at all.

HEADACHES

HERE are a few fortunate people

THERE

who do not know what a headache is, but the majority of us are only too well able to describe the signs and symptoms, the waxing and waning and the periodicity of our headaches.

By a Family Doctor

Obviously, a pain in the hend may occur for a variety of reasons. When we consider our hard-bony skull, which is incapable of expansion, we are only surprised and indeed pleased to realise that we could suffer far more than we do. The brały contained in this rigid box is affected by the blood supply from the heart. Any abnormal increase in pressure, ∙due to a poison such as errors in food or drink affects the brain, and

an intense headacha ensues.

The pain and weakness due to a tumour or new growth on the brain are different in charncler from the throbbing head which follows a gay night or an indigestible meal.

Again, young delicate girls, who do not get suficient fresh air and good food frequently suffer from a dull noho at the top of the head due to anaemia. The pain is often as- sociated with ringing noises in the oars and attacks of dizziness. All hoso unpleasant things disappear when the girl is given a course of iron and arsenie by her doctor, and her dietary Improved.

The headache due to cyo-sirnin is usually frontal and is useful as n warning that a visit to the oculist in about duc.

Rheumatle hondache froquently occurs in elderly women. There are usually little brous nodiles in the scalp which are exquisitely sensitive to the touch. A hot application to the tender spot and regular massage give marked rellof in these cases.

A. violent headache may usher in an attack

of influenza or infectious

disease, but here there is usually a rise of temperature "na'well,

Where middle-aged men suffer from dull headaches which do not clear up under dieting and drugs, kidney trou- bie should be suspected. The kidneys frequently begin to function badly at this time of life and a long course. of treatment may be necessary,

Exercise to take

away a

Double Chin

Action: To tighten the muscles under the chin which, when they become relaxed, ac- eumulate fat. In turn

the fatty tissues cause the muscles to sug still more, so that in order to dissipate the fat the muscles must first be strengthened, which is the work of this exercise.

Method: While chewing a piece of gum, move the head slowly in a complete circle. The chew- e Ing, which may sound funny, is a necessary part of the exercise, you will feel the muscles under the chin coming into usc. Gum is not essential, but it makes it easier to remember you must chew.

The circular motion which your head should describe must be complete-drst forward, so that the chin rests on coltar-bone, then to the left shoul- der. back as for as it will go, over to the right shoulder and round. Then reverse the direction.

Prescription: Not less than ten times each. way every morning. And do thew hard, so that the teeth clench each time,

Generally speaking, pastel shades rather than bright colours will be worn for jumpers, and cardigans-soft youthful shades of duck-egg blue, primrose and rose. The best models are hand- knit in cable stitch. Crystal but- tons" give a summery touch.
