A writer in the Telegraph, in discussing last week tho commencement to-night of the Amateur Dramatic Society's production of "Lover's Leap", pointed out that Hongkong would be theatrically starved but for its amatour stage societics.

The same complaint has been voiced in recent years all over the English-speaking world. Gone in London, for instance, are the old Music Hall days, when patrons could choose between the Oxford, Tivoli, Pavilion, Palaco, Met., the Aquarium, and other music halls of equal fame.

Only one or two of the old time stars still shine. Now ones burst into brilliance and then fade away.

There are no modern names in the theatrical world that will live long in memory such as Little Tich, Tom Costello, Dan Leno, Herbert Campbell, Charles Coborn, Wilkio Bard, Vesta Tilley, Sam Mayo, Marie Lloyd and others. Especially Maric Lloyd.

To the hundreds of Hongkong people who sigh for the unforgettable yesteryears, the following articlo by a local con- tributor will prove of more than ordinary interest.
