Death Of
Cambridge Tennis Blue
We greatly regret to record the death of Alan Homsby Wright, captain of the Cambridge University Lawn Tennis Club, which occurred in Cambridge nursing home last week, following injuries received in a motor acoldent near Newmarket on February 1, observes Lawn Tennis and Bad- minton
He was a third-year undergraduate at Trinity Hall and won his Jawn tennis Blue last summer when he as- sisted the 'Varsity in recording their 26th victory over Oxford University in the 51st match of the series. Ho was afterwards elected captain of the club for the current year. During the long vacation he was a member of the Oxford and Cambridge team which met the Harvard and Yale Univer- sities for the Prentice Cup and when the score stood at 10-0 in the visitors" favour he took part in what proved to be the key-rubber with C. R. Fawcus against Stevens and Mans- hold. This rubber lasted for three. hours and ran to 63 games, Fawcus and Hornsby Wright holding four _mutch-points in the third set before. losing. In October Hornsby Wright assisted Kent county the Inter enunty hard court championships. He Brst attracted. notice at the Folkestone tournament where, he won the first clans handicap with 15.6 in 1933, and again in 1934 from the scratch mark, when there was only one handicap (scale 2).
"A GREAT LOSS"
Only quite recently we received a letter from him in which he outlined some of the plans he was making for the Varsity's lawn tennis, nudd it was evident that as captain he was taking, his duties in a conscientious and pains- taking manner.
